PEI Kids is dedicated to promoting and maintaining a safe environment for all children. PEI Kids works with the child, family, and caregiver to provide prevention, intervention and advocacy programs relating to personal safety, sexual abuse, and the overall well-being of the child.
A 501(c)3 organization, PEI Kids began in 1985 as Prevention Education Inc. when its founders, who worked at a rape crisis hotline, discovered there were no child sexual abuse prevention programs for children in Mercer County, NJ. Among our initial successes was implementing one of the first Child Assault Prevention (CAP) projects in New Jersey, which was later adopted by the NJ Department of Education and mandated in every county.
Originally staffed by two people, PEI Kids currently has eight full-time and 41 part-time staff members and an incredibly passionate Board of Trustees, as well as strongly established working relationships with local law enforcement; government agencies, schools, universities, and other social service organizations. With our mission of promoting and maintaining a safe environment for all children, PEI Kids is now Mercer County's premier organization addressing issues related to violence and children. |
